One Word 2014 – STAND

My One Word for this year is STAND.  A few weeks before the end of the year I knew this is what it was as I had two different people from two different churches tell me to not move and to STAND.  I have chosen two Scriptures to STAND on this year.  One is 1 Corinthians 16:13 (NKJV) which says, “Watch, STAND fast in the faith, be brave, be strong” and the other one is Ephesians 6:13-14  (NKJV), 13 “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withSTAND in the evil day, and having done all, to STAND.  14  STAND therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness.”

Quiet My Anxious Heart online study begins May 8, 2013

Just about three weeks ago, our intercessory team at church had those that wanted to come in the sanctuary to “soak in God’s presence.”  The lady over the intercessory team told everyone to find a spot to sit, close our eyes, don’t think about any worries or anyone around us, but to focus on God as the worship music played (on a CD) for about 30 – 45 minutes.  I admit it was really hard for me to just sit there and try to focus on nothing but God.

Then, yesterday I found out that on May 8, Wendy Blight is starting an online study called “Quiet My Anxious Heart: Learning to Sit at the Feet of Jesus” that will last for three weeks.  How appropriate huh?  Yes, I thought so too.   God has really been speaking to me about just sitting in His presence since then and now I get to learn how to quiet my oh so anxious heart!!  God is so good!!

Today, I signed up for Wendy Blight’s Street Team to help promote Wendy’s “Living So That” study. If you’d like to become a member simply click on the link and sign up.

My One Word 2013 – Obedient

This is my first time to be involved with the “One Word” theme with Melanie at Only A Breath.  At first I wasn’t going to do it because I wasn’t getting a “word” from God but then it just hit me at once.  All year there were things that I was supposed to do and I didn’t do them.  So, I decided this year was going to be different and if I was going to be in God’s plan for my life then there were things I needed to do and things I needed to change.  Then, last week or so I was reading one of the blog posts at Only a Breath and I heard the “obedient” so that’s my word for 2013.

One Word 2013 ObedientIn Webster’s Dictionary, the word “obedient” means to obeying or willing to obey; complying with or submissive to authority.  This year I have already found myself in a few situations where I’ve asked God “why did I respond like that?” or “why didn’t I just do it?”  Just today at work a person wanted me to sit at the front desk and because I was “bogged” down with work being off the last two days (Thursday and Monday) and I used the excuse that I had too much work to get caught up on.  What if I had just gone ahead and sat at the front desk?   Was that so hard to do?  Probably not and hopefully I am going to be more aware of my one word “obedient” this year since I will be concentrating on it daily.

I’ve looked up a few scriptures to help me focus on my One Word:

  • If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; ~Isaiah 1:19 (NIV)
  • And his affection for you is all the greater when he remembers that you were all obedient in everything. ~2 Corinthians 7:15 (NIV)
  • Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; ~2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)
  • Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. ~Titus 3:1 (NLT)
  • So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. ~1 Peter 1:14 (NLT)

I know there are more scriptures about being obedient but these are just a few that jumped out at me.

Since this is my first time, any suggestions would be welcomed on how to stay focused on my one word.

Night spent in Children’s Hospital

I’m glad my Kindle was still in my purse so I am not bored.  My 3 year old granddaughter took her brother’s ADD medicine, actually she took more than just one.  My daughter calls  poison control hotline at about 8:00 p.m. or around that time and they tell her to get her daughter to the hospital.  The hospital had a room waiting on them when they got there.  The doctors and nurses got an IV started and got her all prepped.  Then they had her transported to Children’s hospital where she could get better care cause they’re more equipped to handle children.  Her mom was panicking and asked me if I would stay up here with her so I am.  It’s freezing in the room but that’s okay.  I have had a lot of time to sit here and think about God and how He always makes a way when we think there is no way.  As I watched my granddaughter be almost non-responsive to the attempts to wake her I told God that she was in His hands.  Now it’s after 2:30 a.m. and she’s been restless and waking up off and on.  Our God is an awesome God!!  He answers all our prayers!!  If you prayed, thank you so much.  God bless you all!!

On November 25, my dad called wanting to know if my husband and I had left yet to come up to his house for Thanksgiving and I told him that we had.  He said that he wasn’t feeling well and was heading to the emergency room at the VA.  So, we turned around and went back home.  Dad called me later in the day to let me know that the doctor said he had pneumonia and they were going to keep him.

On Saturday, my husband and I went to the VA hospital to visit my dad.  We were there when the doctor came in to tell him that the tumor on his lung was possibly cancer, stage 3, large cell, and was not operable because his lungs were too weak.  The tumor is 5 X 2 X 2, and there are several little nodes around the airway.  Even if they took the one lung out, his other lung is too weak.

On November 30, the doctor did the biopsy.  He didn’t get the results back until December 15.  The type of cancer is called squamous cell.

Dad had his first round of chemo on December 17.  He did very well until Sunday evening where he wasn’t feeling well and I took him to the emergency room at the VA where they admitted him to the hospital because his sodium levels were too low.  We thought this was going to be good since he had an MRI scheduled for Monday but when Monday came around, he still hadn’t had the MRI.  He got to go home on Tuesday and the doctor told him that the doctors in the emergency room overreacted about his sodium being “too low.”

His MRI was rescheduled for December 29.  The doctor gave him some lorazepam to take before the test.  When he signed in, the secretary told him that they’d let him know when to take it.  Well, they never came to tell him and he started thinking that he didn’t want to do the test so they told him to go ahead and take one of the tablets.  He did and within 30 minutes he was sleeping.  lol   He should know the results of the MRI sometime this week.

God’s Warriors (by Loretto Livingston)

I received a LIVE publication on September 7, 2008 at church and just loved the poem on the back cover by Loretto Livingston.  Here is what it said:

Liberty and responsibility

Walk hand in hand,

And both stand upon the rock of faith;

A breath from above to stir the hearts of those below.

Liberty is not freely given

But must be wrestled

From the steel clad hands of tyranny and evil,

And once won must be constantly guarded

By mighty men of faith and valor.

The enemy comes stealthily to unguarded shores,

Sneaking in when men of goodwill relax,

Trusting in the good of others,

Not remembering that evil lurks in the hearts of all men

And, unchecked, spreads like a cancer through the soul.

Wake up, you who are called intercessors,

Watchers on the wall, prayer warriors,

Anointed protectors of the land;

The nation rests in your hands.

Be alert.

Danger is within as well as without.

Unsheathe your swords and fight.

Healed by the grace of God!

A week ago Sunday, June 22, the pastor at our church, Benton First Assembly, called those that needed healing to the altars to have prayer warriors lay their hands on them and heal them.  He said, “even if you have a headache” come.  With that, I went to the front to be healed of my panic attacks.  I was prayed over, hands were laid on me, and I was healed!  I continue to thank God everyday for healing me of those panic attacks.  To date, I haven’t had one and I will thank Him forever for healing me!

Here are some scriptures about healing in the Bible:
